JANUARY - READING PLAN

ReadingPlan_JAN19.jpg

The Proverbs is a collection of wisdom that offers some of the most practical advice for actually living life God’s way here on earth. Here’s what Eugene Peterson had to say about Proverbs:

“Wisdom is the art of living skillfully in whatever actual conditions we find ourselves in. Wisdom has to do with becoming skillful in honoring our parents and raising our children, handling our money and conducting our sexual lives, going to work, and exercising leadership using words well and treating friends kindly, eating and drinking healthily, cultivating emotions within ourselves and attitudes toward others that make for peace.

Threaded through all these items is the insistence that the way we think of and respond to God is the most practical thing we do.

Proverbs concentrates on these concerns more than any other book in the Bible. Attention to the here and now is everywhere present. Proverbs distills it all into riveting images that keep us connected in holy obedience to the ordinary.”

Join us as we begin the year considering how God would have us live our lives here on earth with practical wisdom and attentiveness to his ways.

OCTOBER - READING PLAN

ReadingPlan_OCT18.jpg

This month's plan takes us through the book of Hebrews as we’re studying it in our “Jesus is Better” series. We’ll also spend some time in the song book of Scripture, the Psalms. Then we’ll finish up in the book of James as we consider what it means to be a people whose faith drives us to kingdom action!

A simple outline for reading the various passages might go something like this:

  • Pray that God will open you up to what his Word has to say.

    What does the text say?
    What does it mean?
What’s grabbing your heart or attention?
What will you keep chewing on or processing for the rest of the day?
